Cleveland-Rouen Sister City Exchanges

Sister City 10th Anniversary

Since 2008, Cleveland has had a sister city relationship with Rouen. Since then, the FACC Ohio and City of Rouen have initiated multiple cultural exchanges, delegations, and economical development visits.

For the 10th anniversary in 2018, we are planning two key events:

- In Cleveland, a Bastille Day celebration on July 14, 2018

- In Rouen, the 100th anniversary of the armistice of November 11, 1918. It was a ceasefire agreed upon during World War I between the Allies and Germany

Our program is developing nicely, but we need volunteers and donations to make these projects possible. Please consider contacting Executive Director Cedric Le Rouge to learn more about volunteer opportunities and to participate.

Cleveland Bastille Day Celebration

On Bastille Day, July 14, 2018, we are planning on a garden party open to the public with food stands presented by chefs from Cleveland and Rouen, the Institut Nationale de la Boulangerie Pâtisserie (INBP), and other local partners.

During the week of July 14, 2018, the Conservatory of Rouen jazz band will hold concerts in partnership with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. There will also be economic and business delegations for professional meetings in partnership with Rouen Normandy Invest (RNI) and the FACC Ohio.

In Cleveland - October 20 to November 8, 2018

The Ensemble Variances (a musical ensemble from Rouen) will offer five workshops for students in the art therapy and musical composition departments of Baldwin Wallace University. The Ensemble Variances will perform their new opera "The Way of Beauty // Walking in Beauty."

In Rouen - the week of November 11, 2018

  • On November 11, five musicians from the Ensemble Variances and two musicians from Cleveland, in partnership with the Opéra de Rouen, will perform a prequel of "Healing" at the Chapelle Corneille
  • The Ensemble Variances will perform the "Watunna Project" at the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Rouen (CHU)
  • The Conservatory of Rouen jazz band will hold concerts in partnership with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra
  • A street artist from Cleveland will finish a permanent wall fresco in Rouen that will be unveiled by the city in November
  • Cleveland photo exhibition at the City Hall of Rouen and a documentary film titled "Good bye Cleveland - Hello France"
  • Economic and business delegations for professional meetings in partnership with Rouen Normandy Invest (RNI) and the FACC Ohio.
